English-speaking support in Antalya
Understanding your dentist matters more than anything else in the room. Here is who speaks English at each stage, and how to make sure nothing is lost.
Most Antalya clinics that treat UK patients have English-speaking coordinators, and many dentists speak English. Ask whether the dentist who treats you speaks English or whether someone translates in the chair. Precious Dental's three dentists list Turkish and English on their profiles, and our coordinators answer on a UK WhatsApp number.
Three people, three conversations
When you are treated abroad, you talk to several people. Each one needs to understand you in a different way.
- The coordinator answers your first messages, books your trip and meets you at the clinic. At clinics that treat UK patients, coordinators almost always speak English well.
- The dentist examines you, explains the plan, asks for your consent and treats you. This is the conversation that matters most.
- The nurse helps in the chair and often gives aftercare instructions. Some speak English, some do not.
Ask about the dentist, not the clinic
A clinic can say “we speak English” because its coordinators do. That does not tell you about the person who will explain your X-ray. Ask a simple question before you book: “Does the dentist who will treat me speak English, or will someone translate?” Either answer can work. What does not work is finding out on the day.
If someone translates
Interpreting in the chair is common and usually fine. A few things make it work better:
- The same interpreter stays for the whole appointment.
- The dentist looks at you, not only the interpreter, when explaining.
- You get the key points in writing: the diagnosis, the plan, the risks and the aftercare.
- You can stop at any time and ask again.
Signals in the chair
Once you are lying back with instruments in your mouth, you cannot talk. Agree a signal with your dentist before you start, usually raising your left hand, that means “stop, I need a moment”. A good dentist will agree to this without hesitation and will check on you during the treatment.
Written instructions
After surgery you may be tired, numb or sedated. Do not rely on remembering what was said. Ask for aftercare instructions on paper or by message, in English, with a phone number to call at night.
How Precious Dental handles language
Our three dentists list Turkish and English on their profiles, so the dentist who explains your plan can usually do it in English. Our coordinators answer on a UK WhatsApp number, +44 7575 589099, so you can message in English before, during and after your trip.
Before you book
Have one conversation with your dentist, by video, before you pay anything. If you understand each other on a video call, you will understand each other in the chair. Read meeting your dentist and our 12 questions.
Common questions
Do dentists in Antalya speak English?
Many do, especially at clinics that treat a lot of UK patients. It varies from dentist to dentist, so ask about the one who will treat you.
Is it a problem if a translator is used?
Not necessarily, as long as the translator is there for the whole conversation and you can ask questions. Ask for the important points in writing as well.
What if I do not understand something during treatment?
Raise your hand and ask the dentist to stop and explain. Agree a hand signal before you start.
Will my consent form be in English?
Ask for it in English before treatment. Do not sign anything you cannot read.
